🎮Metagaming

Metagaming refers to the use of out-of-character (OOC) information to influence in-character (IC) actions or decisions.

Players must only act on information their character has realistically obtained through roleplay within the city.

Using information from external sources to gain an advantage in roleplay is strictly prohibited.

Examples of Metagaming

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Using information obtained from Discord chats, private messages, or external communication

  • Acting on knowledge gained from live streams or video content

  • Identifying players using name tags, voice recognition, or OOC knowledge

  • Using information learned outside of roleplay to locate, track, or target another player

All information used in roleplay must be obtained naturally through in-character interaction.

Evidence & Recording Rules

Only certain methods of recording are considered valid in-character evidence.

Accepted Recording Devices

The following are considered valid IC recording devices:

  • Body cameras

  • Mobile phone cameras (photo or video)

  • Vehicle dashcams

  • CCTV systems

Items such as “Smart Glasses,” head-mounted displays, or similar technology do not exist in-character and cannot be used for recording or evidence.

Audio Recording

Audio recording is only considered valid during phone calls.

Secretly recording in-person conversations without a valid IC device is not permitted.

Communication Restrictions

The use of third-party voice communication software while inside the city is strictly prohibited.

This includes services such as:

  • Discord voice calls

  • External voice chat platforms

  • Any other communication software used to coordinate in real time

All in-character communication must take place using in-game voice chat or approved in-game systems.

Using external communication to coordinate roleplay actions or share information is considered metagaming.

Streaming & Content Consumption

Players must not watch or participate in another player’s live stream while actively in the city.

Viewing live content that may reveal:

  • Player locations

  • Ongoing scenarios

  • Police activity

  • Character plans or intentions

can influence roleplay decisions, even unintentionally, and is therefore considered metagaming.

Players should ensure they avoid any live content that could impact their in-character knowledge while playing.

Enforcement

Any confirmed instance of:

  • Metagaming

  • Use of third-party communication

  • Influence from live streams or external information

will be treated as a rule violation and may result in administrative action.

Staff will review situations based on context, intent, and available evidence.
